Peggy Toole for Kaufman

From her earliest memories of the visiting art museums as a toddler to later travels to places as varied as Tibet, Tuscany, Japan, or the Australian outback, Peggy Toole has always been enchanted and inspired by the romance of foreign and by-gone cultures. Though trained at Washington University and University of Michigan as a classical figure painter and printmaker, she soon found herself attracted to more decorative styles of art which incorporate brilliant color and bold shape with ornate surface design or texture.

As Peggy has grown older and her family of felines has grown to a dozen or more, she now also draws inspiration nearer to home – from her love of flowers, animals and the beauty of the Rocky Mountains where she now resides.

Peggy Toole creates a glorious and ornate fabric in her Lumina 2 collection for Robert Kaufman Fabrics. The colors Scarlet Red, Yellow, Orange, Kelly Green, Aqua, Purple, Royal Blue, Cream, Beige, and black lightly gilded in Gold Metallic. Marrakesh Kaleidoscope Quilt Block Kit

Marrakesh with metallic details, from Fabric Traditions, is rich and full of elegant patterns in tranquil colors.The colors are Teal, Sage, Green and Indigo and Chocolate Brown, pattern 1115 color Green. The precut corners are also from the same collection. This is a precut kit to sew a set of 12 kaleidoscope quilt blocks. Maria Kalinowski for Kanvas

Maria Kalinowski is the creative force behind Kanvas, a new division of Benartex which features novelty prints and more. If you’ve been in the fabric world, chances are you are already familiar with Maria. For the past 14 years, her fabric prints have delighted collectors, manufacturers and designers. From food, to race cars to rock stars, Maria’s eye for subject and color has provided quilt shops some of the most unique and best-loved prints in the industry. Her designs have graced the covers of Women’s Wear Daily and People magazine and have even appeared in music videos.

A graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, Maria comes from a long line of creative talent beginning with her grandparents who immigrated to the U.S. and established a successful dress design business in the 1940s. Today, Maria’s inspiration comes from the energized streets of NYC, as well as the serenity of her Connecticut home. Her innovative designs makes it easy to say: “There’s no place like Kanvas!”
