Kaffe Fassett
Despite the ever-changing world of Quilting, one thing remains the same - Kaffe Fassett is still the king of color.
Widely known for his innovative florals in quilts, Fassett has worked in a multitude of mediums throughout his long career, including painting, tapestry, and furniture design. He has also written several books on quilt-making.
Fassett was born in San Francisco, California, in 1937. He developed a love of art at an early age, and won a scholarship to study at The Boston Museum of Fine Arts School when he was nineteen. He left after 3 months to paint in London and settled there in 1964. There, he began to work in the textile industry, and his work soon gained a following among the fashion crowd when he worked as a knitwear designer for Missoni among others.
Since then, Kaffe has continued to produce a wide range of textiles, as well as books and other works on art and design. in 1988, when Kaffe became the first living textile artist to have a one-man show at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. The exhibition attracted such crowds that the Museum doubled attendance figures during the run and the exhibition toured to nine countries: Finland, Holland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Australia, Canada, USA and Iceland
Fassett's work is often described as being optimistic and uplifting, and he has been credited with helping to revive the art of quilting.
