Paula Nadelstern

Paula Nadelstern makes quilts on the same block in the Bronx in New York where she grew up. Her Kaleidoscope quilts merge magic with light, color and motion. Paula's books, Kaleidoscopes & Quilts and Snowflakes & Quilts were published by C&T Publishing. She is an author, teacher, quiltmaker and textile designer.
 She settled into full-time quiltmaking by way of the playground park bench. That's where city moms on hiatus from previous careers hung out and shared ideas--like organizing quilt novices into making a raffle quilt for a local cooperative nursery. One good quilt led to another and another. By the time she gave up her place on that bench to a new generation of moms, she had the expertise and repertoire for a comprehensive book on group quilts and was stitching her way toward a new career.
 Her goal is to harmoniously integrate the "idea" of a kaleidoscope with the techniques and materials of quiltmaking. Becoming a kaleidoscope aficionado has made her more adaptable and creative, both artistically and intellectually. The notion that there is no absolute, correct, best selection, that her fabric choices today will be different from ones made tomorrow, is very liberating to her. After all, a breathtaking collision of color in a 'scope will maneuver into something different, something slightly new, during even the instant it takes her to hand it to you.

Finished dimension for all blocks sewn together is 24 X 32 inches. Each block measures 8 1/2 inches square when sewn. Our Fast and Easy Blooming Blocks© are cut from 100 percent cotton fabric. Each block in the set will be uniquely different due to layering the fabric in exact repeats to create a kaleidoscope effect by precisely rotary cutting them.They are specially cut so that the centers will lie flatter and so there is no bias on the edges of the block so they lie flat in your quilt.
