Each fabric is chosen with a designers eye for how the fabric will "bloom" as a kaleidoscope, and then layered and cut into twelve 8 1/2 inch blocks. All of our pre-cut kaleidoscopes fit all of our Avalon Bloom patterns, and there are over 30 to choose from.

Emery Walker played a pivotal role in William Morris' life, serving as both a close friend and a significant influence. Born in Paddington in 1851 and later relocating to Hammersmith, Walker embarked on a career in the printing industry in 1873, eventually co-founding the renowned engraving company, 'Walker and Boutall Automatic and Photographic Engravers', alongside Walker Boutall. Their innovative techniques revolutionized book illustration, integrating photographs and artworks seamlessly. Morris held Walker in high regard, considering a day incomplete without a glimpse of his friend. While Morris is renowned primarily for his poetry, it was Walker who spurred him to delve into the world of publishing. Inspired by Walker's vision and expertise, Morris established the Kelmscott Press in 1891, dedicated to producing limited-edition illustrated books. This venture became a passion for Morris until his passing in 1896. Though Emery Walker may be less familiar to many, he was a luminary within the Arts & Crafts movement, actively involved in organizations such as The Art Workers' Guild and The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings. His contributions to the printing industry and his friendship with Morris left an indelible mark on both their lives and on the artistic landscape of Britain.

Named after the River Wandle, on which Morris' Merton Abbey workshop sat, history forms a foundation for the collection and pays homage to William Morris' original studio.
