Hailing from San Francisco, California, Kaffe Fassett's artistic inclinations blossomed early in life. Securing a scholarship to The Boston Museum of Fine Arts School at the tender age of nineteen, he embarked on a journey fueled by his passion for art. His pursuit led him to London in 1964, forsaking the academic confines after a brief three-month stint to immerse himself in the vibrant world of painting. It was there that he found his niche in the textile industry, captivating the fashion scene with his distinctive designs, notably during his tenure as a knitwear designer for Missoni and other esteemed labels.
Throughout the decades, Fassett has continued to be a prolific creator, consistently producing an expansive array of textiles, while also authoring books and contributing to diverse artistic ventures. In 1988, the annals of history were rewritten when Kaffe Fassett achieved a groundbreaking milestone: becoming the first living textile artist to headline a solo exhibition at London's prestigious Victoria & Albert Museum. The showcase became a cultural phenomenon, drawing throngs of enthusiasts and doubling the Museum's attendance figures during its run. Subsequently, the exhibition embarked on a global tour, spanning nine countries including Finland, Holland, Australia, and the USA, further cementing Fassett's international acclaim.
Characterized by an infectious optimism and an uplifting aura, Fassett's oeuvre revitalized and redefined the art of quilting.
