Born and raised around fabric and creativity, Jason Yenter grew up immersed in the quilting world. In 1977, his mother, Sharon, opened In The Beginning Fabrics as a small fabric shop on Seattle’s Capitol Hill. The original 400-square-foot store was tucked above his grandmother and aunt’s dollhouse shop, but over the years the business expanded and eventually grew into a vibrant 6,000-square-foot destination filled with fabric, inspiration, and community.

Jason’s passion for quilting started early. By middle school he was helping stock fabric bolts in the store, and as a high school senior he created his very first quilt for a humanities project. That early experience sparked a lifelong love of textile design.

When In The Beginning launched its fabric division in 1996, Jason introduced his first fabric collection, Atlantis. Since then, he has designed countless collections featuring his signature rich colors, dramatic prints, and intricate patterns. His artwork has appeared on millions of yards of cotton fabric, as well as men’s apparel and paper products for major retailers such as Michaels.

Today, Jason focuses on creating fabric collections, quilt designs, and quilting books, with more than 16 published titles that often coordinate with his fabric lines. His designs continue to inspire quilters and sewists around the world.
